Thinking Together

Socratic Circle on "Professions for Women" by Virginia Woolf- Remember to stick to the TEXT!
Some questions for consideration:
  • What was her "so what?"
  • How did she craft her argument?
  • What was the historical context here?
  • What would Virginia Woolf have to say about women today? Have we killed the "Angel in the House?"
  • Pull out text evidence that you would use for an analysis- this is your chance to flush out commentary!
  • What technique does Woolf use in all three of the chunks your groups examined? How is this effective?

Writing Mini-Lesson

Body paragraphs

Topic Sentence + Chunk + Chunk=
  • Look for chunks that will fit together to support the same point/topic sentence. That may mean a repeatedly used technique or a point in the text that is significant. (Little more authentic than Diction, Imagery, Details)
  • Look at example paragraph.

Independent Practice

Write a body paragraph for "Professions for Women" by Virginia Woolf. (Note: This paragraph would be from the body of your essay. It should not include your tone thesis or a TAG. This was presumably taken care of in your introduction.)
